The Most Effective Printed Flyer Size

When it’s time to market your business, there are many routes you can take to get your message out. You can promote the company online through paid ads or social media. You can hand out business cards to everyone you know. You can take out an ad in your local newspaper. You can hang a poster in your shop window. But one of the most effective marketing strategies we’ve found is handing out printed flyers to your customers.

When your customers take home a printed flyer, your brand and your business are more likely to stay at the top of their minds – resulting in more business for you! However, a flyer is only effective if you use the very best flyer design and the right paper size.

Let’s discuss two of the most common flyer sizes used by businesses today: A4 and A6.

A4 Flyer Size

Measuring in at 210×297 mm, A4 is one of the typical paper sizes used in the United Kingdom. Many businesses use A4 flyers to promote grand openings or special events, as it is quite easy (and cost-effective) to print flyers on this standard paper size. That said, A4 is also the largest possible size you should use for flyer printing; any larger, and your printer approaches “poster territory.”

Why It Works

What makes A4 an effective size for your flyers? There are a few benefits to using the classic A4 when creating your company flyers. Firstly, working with standard sizes can help minimize costs. You can use your own design and print them on your office computer, or work with a company that offers digital printing to create lovely flyers for a rather low price.

Secondly, your customers are likely to accept a flyer that’s printed in a size that’s already familiar to them. If you leave a stack of A4 flyers at the checkout counter, you’ll find that customers are likely to grab one and toss it into their bag, taking a little reminder of your business home.

When to Use It

You can use A4 flyers to advertise just about any event you wish. Because A4 is a standard size, it’s appropriate for anything! If your business is opening a new location, having a seasonal sale, or attending a trade show – and you want to create a high-quality flyer for a low cost – A4 is a great choice for you.

A6 Flyer Size

After A4, the most popular paper size for flyers is A6, which measures in at 148mm x 105mm. About the size of a postcard, this small flyer size is a very effective way to advertise your business without overwhelming your audience. This little rectangle is the perfect amount of space for a clean, well-designed ad.

Why It Works

Anytime you hand out flyers for your business, you’ll run across customers who simply don’t want to take them. The very idea of cluttering their bag with a sheet of paper could make their skin crawl – but a little, A6 flyer? That hardly takes us any space!

Of course, an A6 flyer’s small size does mean it can easily get lost in the shuffle. If you decide to use this size flyer for your business, consider using other design and printing methods to help it stand out. Investing in a full-colour print or a thicker paper weight can go a long way.

When to Use It

A6 flyers are a great option for big events like trade shows (where attendees are getting flyers from everyone they meet), and they are also very useful in direct marketing campaigns. Their small size makes them easy to mail out to your customers or clients, but they are just large enough to create a truly beautiful and compelling design.

Other Flyer Sizes

Of course, A4 and A6 are not the only flyer sizes you can use to advertise your business. While we would not suggest using paper any larger than A4 (then your flyer becomes a large format poster), you can consider using an A5 flyer (210mm x 148mm) to spread the word about your company. You could also use an A7 flyer (105mm x 74mm) – however, these are so small (about the size of a business card) that they are best suited to in-store promotion, such as a flyer that’s attached to a receipt.

With this size guide, you’ll be able to find the perfect paper size for your next advertising adventure. And with high-quality digital printing available in just a few clicks, you can also create beautiful flyers that will have the customers running your way!
